About — Arrow Label

A small workshop
in Porto, making
the same twelve
shoes, year after year.

Arrow Label started in 2019 when Mara found a stack of 1960s shoe patterns in the attic of a closed factory in São João da Madeira. We rebuilt one pair. Then twelve. Then a small business.

01 / Origin

From an attic
in São João.

In 2019, Mara was visiting a defunct shoe factory in São João da Madeira — the historic footwear capital of Portugal — when the building's caretaker led her up to a dusty attic. There, stacked between broken chairs and old ledgers, were seventy-two paper patterns for shoes made between 1962 and 1989.

She took them home. Spent three months learning to read them. Found a retired clicker named Tomás who could still cut leather by hand. And rebuilt the first pair: a 1968 oxford in oxblood calf leather.

That first pair became The Porto Oxford. The Porto Oxford became Arrow Label. Six years later, we still make it the same way — same pattern, same leather, same hand-stitched welt, same clicker (Tomás, now 67).

We don't drop seasonal collections. We don't chase trends. We make twelve shoes, and we make them well. Every store that stocks us gets the same answer: "This is what we make. Take it or leave it."

Workshop
02 / What we believe

Three rules
we don't break.

RULE 01

Real patterns,
not retro styling.

Every shoe starts from an original paper pattern from 1960–1990. We don't design "vintage-inspired" shapes — we rebuild the actual archive. The curves, the toe spring, the heel pitch — all period-correct.

RULE 02

One workshop,
one team, named.

Six people make every pair. Mara cuts patterns. Tomás clicks leather. Sofia lasts. Hugo finishes. Beatriz sources archive. Inês ships. No outsourcing, no third-party factories, no white-labelling.

RULE 03

Same twelve
shoes, every year.

We don't release new silhouettes to drive sales. Our twelve shoes are our twelve shoes. If a design works, we keep making it. If it doesn't, we retire it — quietly, without a farewell drop.

03 / The team

Six hands,
twelve shoes.
